EIR
The EIR (Equipment Identity Register) stores and manages equipment information related to theft, malfunction, etc.
As a database within GSM and other 2nd generation mobile radio systems, it identifies terminals authorized for network access.
Each terminal possesses a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), which is registered in the EIR to ensure individual mobility and facilitate authentication during system access.

EIR main function
- Maintain/manage equipment status information
– White List: List of IMEIs that are permitted to be used within the network
– Black List: List of IMEIs that are not permitted to be used (illegal IMEIs such as stolen or counterfeit)
– Gray List: IMEIs that require management for operational reasons (malfunctions, etc.)
- IMEIs in the Black List are banned from calling, while White List and Gray List allow common calls.
- Provides a response to IMEI status information query requested by MME (SGSN or MSC).
- Provides a mechanism to restrict access to the network by unauthorized, damaged, or stolen terminals.
- Records and notifications of illegal terminal use.
